The school believes that every individual should be prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life, and that this preparation should be an important and distinctive element of the curriculum.
The school will ensure that each pupil’s curriculum is broad and balanced to meet career aspirations as they develop, and that there will be equality of access to all teaching and learning strategies irrespective of gender, race, creed and ability. This will be achieved through consultation with teachers, pupils, parents/ carers, and the statutory Independent and impartial careers advice commissioned by the school.

Being an education establishment, we follow the Gatsby Benchmarks. These 8 Benchmarks are the foundation of our Careers Programme. Our provision is inspected and audited by the Careers and Enterprise Company using the Compass Careers Benchmark Tool. This tool is used by schools and colleges in England to support the analysis and evaluation of careers activity against the eight benchmarks of best practice. As recommended by Gatsby Benchmark 1, we plan to review the published Careers information on an annual basis, inviting feedback from key stakeholders.
The Careers Department coordinates a fantastic variety of activities, visits and events tailored specifically for each year group. These include; lessons and workshops integrated into the curriculum, assemblies, guest speakers, work experience schemes, external visits, FE / HE / Training provider talks, Careers Fair and Apprenticeship talks.
This policy sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at the school for the purposes of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
The School uses Compass + to record, measure and evaluate the careers programme. This tool, along with analysing destination data and surveys, is then used to measure the programme’s impact. In addition, where appropriate, the views of students and parents will be surveyed after key events. Lift New Forest maintains accurate destination data for Year 11 leavers.
At Lift New Forest we aim to support pupils and parents/carers by providing timely advice and guidance throughout Years 7-11. This support, advice and many opportunities are made possible by our strong relationships with local Colleges, Employers, Training providers and Universities.
Every student has the opportunity for an impartial guidance interview, to explore the range of education or training options – including apprenticeships and other vocational pathways – available whenever significant study or career choices are being made.
Lift New Forest has a qualified and impartial Careers Advisor to provide support in making individual future career and study plans. Appointments can be requested by parents or students through the tutor, head of year or emailing the Careers Leader on srichmond@liftnewforest.org
LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION (LMI)
It is important for every student, parent and carer to be aware of and make use of Labour Market Information. This can help to prepare students for decisions on future study and potential job sectors. LMI is updated regularly and shows trends and opportunities to support students in a successful future career.

CAREEROMETER
Careerometer can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers.
It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description of the occupation.
Simply type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You can also select ‘display the UK average’ and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.

CAREERS LEADER
You have a dedicated Careers Leader, Mrs Richmond, available to you at school. Please pop in to see me (D1 or IT11) or you can email srichmond@liftnewforest.org. Whether you need help writing your first CV, are curious about how to join one of the Services, would like some information on the local colleges or want to chat about your future choices we are here to help!
Key Stage 3 – Years 7, 8 and 9
Through the Careers programme and Life curriculum you will strengthen your skills and gain knowledge of different Career pathways, looking at how the curriculum relates to different Careers. Skills you develop include body language, communication, team work, and learn just how important these are to reach the career you want. You will learn about the variety of different pathways available to you post 16 and how to enhance your own employability through voluntary activities.
Key Stage 4 – Years 10 and 11
During this time the focus will be on work experience, producing a CV and making applications. You will have the opportunity of attending our fantastic Careers and Apprenticeship Fairs. This allows you and your parents an opportunity to talk face-to-face with employers, colleges, different training providers and universities.
For all students, an independent external and impartial Careers Adviser will be available for 1:1 appointments to discuss your ideas for your Post 16 plan.

EXPERIENCES OF THE WORKPLACE
You are offered an experience of a workplace through Work Experience. This helps your exploration of career opportunities and to expand your networks.
Year 10 students undertake a one week work experience placement. We encourage students to find their own appropriate placements. This meaningful experience will support future career choices, expand your CV and will prove useful for Sixth Form, College, University and Apprenticeship applications.
Young people today are living in a rapidly changing world and so preparing our students for the challenges and opportunities out there is a vital aspect of their education. Lift New Forest is committed to developing and arming each individual student with the most up to date research and knowledge as they progress through the different key stages. A key element to aiding a students development is instilling the valuable ideals of responsibility and independence to forge their own paths forward. Working in partnership with parents, the Careers Department guides and supports students in an enthusiastic and professional relationship throughout their time at Lift New Forest.

Lifepilot aims to encourage adults (over 21) to get back into learning and progress to higher education. www.life-pilot.co.uk is a free site that offers training from any starting point.
We are using Compass + as a tool to demonstrate that we are successfully meeting the Gatsby Benchmarks which is how schools measure their CEIAG provision.
Lift New Forest is keen to develop meaningful relationships with education providers, employers and businesses to ensure our students gain the qualities, skills and qualifications required to fulfil their ambition and aspirations.

Resources
We are proud to offer an annual work experience scheme for our Year 10 students. The aim of work experience is to help prepare students for the transition from education to employment by giving them the opportunity to get involved in the world of work and gain first-hand knowledge of what a particular job entails. It really is an exciting step for students as they transition from their final stage of school education and prepare for the real working world!
Students are expected to arrange their own placements but will receive in depth guidance from the Careers Department on how to do this.
Our students always make us so proud during their time in the community, acting as great ambassadors for the school during their time in the real working world. We are grateful to our local community for the continued support they have shown our students with accommodating them on placements.
