A group of Year 10 students stepped into the history and living traditions of our local area during a visit to the Lyndhurst Heritage Centre for the Traditional Industries of The New Forest event, offered by the Hampshire Careers Hub.
Designed for students interested in traditional crafts and regional heritage, the day featured a dynamic carousel of hands-on activities led by local employers and independent craftspeople. Students gained insights into various career paths while engaging with guest providers, including the New Forest Tourist Board, Jasmin Makes Stuff, The Beardy Gardener, and Kate Smith Prints.
A highlight of the trip was an exclusive tour of the heritage centre, which gave students special access to historical archives usually closed to the public. They also learned about the diverse job roles that bring a museum space to life—from curation and archiving to exhibition design.
It was an inspiring day connecting classroom learning with local history, entrepreneurship, and future career possibilities right here in the New Forest!
