Our approach to teaching and learning

We have a simple mission - to provide an excellent education for every child, in every classroom, every day.

Our students rely on teachers to skillfully implement the curriculum in every classroom, every day. At Lift New Forest, we have a highly-skilled and established team of subject experts who bring their subjects to life through best-practice approaches.  Routines for learning are firmly embedded, and students know and embrace what is expected of them in every lesson.  Our teachers explain content well, regularly check for understanding and carefully monitor student progress throughout every lesson. Over the course of study, teaching is designed to help pupils to remember longer term, the content they have been taught and to integrate new knowledge into larger ideas. 

We are fortunate to be fully resourced with Google Chromebooks, allowing all students to benefit from the most cutting-edge technology that supports learning and assessment.

We are proud of how we have evolved our approach to high quality lesson planning and delivery, in classrooms that are both relational and rigorous. Each teacher at Lift New Forest works actively to implement “academic monitoring” as our signature teaching strategy.  This means that our teacher continuously checks student progress in every lesson by circulating the classroom.  This helps to ensure that students are meeting learning objectives and enables teachers to identify and address any gaps or misconceptions early on, ensuring no student is left behind.

Across the curriculum, we champion reading and the acquisition of vocabulary in all subjects. At Lift New Forest, we believe that the ability to read well is essential to enabling competence. Ensuring all our pupils can read well and access the curriculum will transform their life chances. In order to achieve this, we use purposeful assessment and high-quality interventions. Reading is a high priority at our school, and we are implementing key reading strategies to create confident, successful readers.  Our approach to reading is multi-faceted. Effective teaching of reading is deeply embedded in our curriculum, and all pupils have access to, can engage with, and enjoy high-quality texts. To further support this, we use the Lift Schools NGRT testing to identify and monitor weaker readers, allowing us to tailor support strategies. This is delivered through a Phonics Programme using Fresh Start Phonics Intervention, ensuring that every pupil builds a strong foundation in reading.  To complement these strategies, we have adopted Sparx Reader as part of our whole school reading strategy and Lexia PowerUp as a targeted intervention for students who need additional support.

We are lucky to be part of a large and ambitious academy trust in Lift Schools.  This allows us to develop and improve teaching using insights from the best teachers in the country.  We respond to new research to make adjustments and changes that ensure continued excellence.
