Last week, Year 9 and 10 students embarked on a journeythrough time at HMP Shepton Mallet, the UK's oldest prison. Ledby former prison officers, the group explored the stark evolutionof the British justice system—from the grim realities of Victorian"hard labour" to the site’s secret role protecting nationaltreasures during WWII. By walking the wings and visiting theexecution room, students moved beyond the textbook to engagein mature debates regarding social justice, ethics, and penalreform, making it a deeply impactful experience for their HistoryGCSE.
