Year 10 National Apprenticeship Week Workshops

We are delighted to share the details of a fantastic three-day careers experience recently attended by a group of our Year 10 students at South Hampshire College Group (SHCG).

Spending time at both the Eastleigh and Southampton City campuses, our students delved into the world of modern apprenticeships through a series of immersive, hands-on workshops.

A Deep Dive into Future Careers

Each day was designed to give students a comprehensive look atdifferent career pathways, including:

  • Construction: Exploring trades that build our future.
  • Marine, Motor Vehicle & Digital: Focusing on high-techengineering and the evolving digital landscape.
  • Dental & Health: Understanding the vital roles within our healthcare system.

What Our Students Experienced

To ensure a well-rounded view of professional life, every session included:

  1. Expert Insights: Informative presentations on how modern apprenticeships work and the best ways to secure one.
  2. Industry Advice: Talks from experienced professionals and apprenticeship providers sharing "real-world" tips.
  3. Campus Tours: A chance to see the state-of-the-art facilities available at SHCG.
  4. Practical Skills: Hands-on activities that brought the workplace to life, including:
    • Technical Trades: Electrical wiring, brick-laying, and replacing car tyres.
    • Creative & Digital: Computer programming and model boat design.
    • Healthcare in Action: Using dental aspirators, managing dental records, and exploring cutting-edge technology in the health suites.

This experience provided invaluable "Skills for Life," helping our students bridge the gap between the classroom and their future careers. We are incredibly proud of how they engaged with these industry experts and represented Lift New Forest.
