Lift New Forest was delighted to welcome our incoming Year 6 students for two successful Transition Days on Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July, giving them an exciting opportunity to experience life as a secondary school student ahead of joining us in September.
Throughout the two days, students met their new tutors and classmates, helping them to begin building friendships and feel part of the Lift New Forest community. They enjoyed a range of engaging taster lessons across different subjects, explored the school site and experienced lunchtime in our Bistro, giving them a real insight into everyday life at secondary school.
The enthusiasm and positivity shown by the students was fantastic to see. They embraced every opportunity with confidence, curiosity and excitement, and by the end of the programme many were already looking forward to returning as Year 7 students in September.
As part of our commitment to supporting a smooth transition, Lift New Forest also worked closely with Blackfield Primary School,delivering two additional taster days on Tuesday 23rd June and Tuesday 30th June. During these visits, Lift New Forest staff travelled to Blackfield to teach lessons in English, Maths, Science and PE.
To help prepare students for the routines of secondary school, the Year 6 pupils followed a secondary-style timetable, moving independently between lessons while carrying all of their equipment and belongings. This provided a valuable opportunity to experience one of the biggest changes they will encounter in September and helped build their confidence before attending the main Transition Days at Lift New Forest. They were even issued with a homework task to complete and we were so impressed with the effort the students put into making some amazing posters and written work.
The feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive. They commented on how helpful they found the experience and said that the additional preparation meant they felt more confident and better equipped for their transition to secondary school.
We are incredibly proud of all the Year 6 students who took part and would like to thank our staff, primary school colleagues and families for their support in making these transition events such a success.We look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort back to Lift New Forest in September as they begin the next exciting chapter of their educational journey.
