Students Inspired at Future Careers Event in Southampton
May 6, 2026

On Wednesday 6th May, Year 9 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Get Inspired for Your Future Southampton & New Forest 2026 event at the O2 Guildhall Southampton. The event brought together young people from across the region to explore future career and education pathways in an engaging and interactive environment.

The event was hosted by EBP South in partnership with Southampton City Council, New Forest District Council and Barratt David Wilson Homes. Designed to inspire and motivate students, the event showcased a wide variety of career sectors and local opportunities available across Southampton and the New Forest.

Throughout the morning, students took part in a range of hands-on “have a go” activities led by local employers, training providers, colleges, universities, and representatives from the public and armed services. These activities gave students valuable insight into professional, technical and craft-based careers, while also allowing them to speak directly with industry experts and ask questions about different job roles, training routes, apprenticeships and qualifications.

A particular highlight was Bournemouth University’s School of Midwifery, which gave students the hands-on experience of delivering a baby and cutting the umbilical cord using a dummy,as well as the opportunity to wear a ‘pregnancy suit’ to experience the weight and strain involved. The boys showed particular maturity by trying the suit on too!

The event was not a recruitment fair, but rather an opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and discover the many exciting opportunities available in the local area through local labour market information. By engaging with real employers and professionals, students were encouraged to think positively about their future aspirations and the pathways they may wish to pursue after school.

Our students represented the school brilliantly throughout the visit, showing enthusiasm, curiosity and maturity as they explored the different exhibits and activities on offer. Many left feeling inspired and more confident about the possibilities available to them in the future.

We would like to thank the organisers and all participating organisations for delivering such a valuable and enjoyable experience for our students.
