Fourteen of our brilliant Year 9 students recently demonstrated incredible academic stamina and ambition by successfully completing The Brilliant Club's Scholars Programme,culminating in an unforgettable graduation ceremony in London.
The journey began with a challenging series of seven university-style tutorial sessions led by a PhD scholar. Students were pushed well beyond the current school curriculum, experiencing the pace and depth of higher education. The programme concluded with a demanding academic essay exploring the complex global issue:Should Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) remain in fixed locations, or should they change over time in response to environmental and human pressures?
To celebrate their hard work, the students braved the summer heat and travelled to London for their graduation ceremony at King's College London's historic Guy's Campus. Home to the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, the campus provided an inspiring setting for the occasion. Founded alongside Guy's Hospital in the 1720s, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious centres for medical training in the UK.
During their visit, students explored the historic campus and discovered its fascinating connection to the Romantic poet John Keats, who trained there as a surgeon-apothecary in 1815 before dedicating his life to poetry. They also gained a valuable insight into university life, learning how students manage their own timetables,study independently and take part in a wide range of extra curricular activities.
The highlight of the day was the official graduation ceremony. Standing proudly alongside students from schools across the country, our Year 9 scholars walked across the stage to receive their certificates. It was a fitting celebration of their dedication,perseverance and the academic skills they had developed throughout the programme, including communication, critical thinking and advanced essay writing.
The journey was also filled with opportunities to enjoy some of London's famous landmarks. From the coach, students spotted the MI6 building, the London Eye, London Bridge, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. A well-earned stop for chilled Starbucks drinks also gave everyone the chance to cool down and stretch their legs in the summer heat.
The coach journey home was filled with a real sense of pride and excitement. We are incredibly proud of the determination, resilience and academic excellence shown by all fourteen of our participating scholars:
